What it handles
- For a new job, find out the type of work, the full address or at least the town and postcode, how urgent it is, and the best time to call back.
- Ask whether it is a domestic or commercial property.
- Never quote a fixed price unless the price is listed in your instructions. Say the owner will confirm a price after a look.
- If the caller describes a gas smell, they must leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Say this first, before anything else.
- If there is water pouring through a ceiling or electrics sparking, treat it as urgent and offer to transfer if a transfer number is set.
